This past weekend, while on retreat, I had the honor and the privilege of holding space for 10 women to get still and to listen to their hearts. What a sacred and beautiful experience to witness! Watching women give themselves permission to name what they need is medicine for my soul and is integral to the healing of our community.
As I walk further down my path as a feminine conscious builder, I am keenly aware of the pain and suffering caused by the “good girl” syndrome. The syndrome that dictates women remain above reproach, serving the needs of others, even at the risk of losing their own identity. The good girl archetype is so restrictive: it not only suppresses our needs, but asks us women to enjoy the role of servant.
Sadly, when a woman refuses to be the good girl, she is punished. Her integrity is questioned and her motives are suspect. Women who refuse to conform to the good girl role are often called vile names and publically shunned. The dominant culture uses fear to discourage women from stepping out of their assigned roles, and then gives women pathological labels when they mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually become sick from unaddressed needs.
I am happy to report things are changing. The dominant culture is losing its hold. More and more women are rejecting imposed roles and choosing to forge their own path, or as we said during the Dance, Play, Dream Retreat, programming their own internal GPS.
Letting go of prescribed roles is revolutionary. Saying no to the people and the things that no longer serve you requires fortitude, clarity and courage. It also requires a tribe: a group of people who share your mission and who have your back. When you are among your tribe, you feel connected to something bigger than yourself. Your tribe fuels your strength as well as gives you permission to be yourself. No more hiding, no more pretending. Your tribe allows all of you to show up – the good, the bad and the ugly – and still loves you.Your tribe allows all of you to show up - the good, the bad and the ugly - and still loves you. #revolution Click To Tweet
Last weekend the women of the Dance, Play, Dream Retreat created their own tribe. They spoke of their needs and were not judged. They shared their challenges and were understood. No one “fixed” another. Each woman trusted the other to find her own answer. Women left with renewed hope and renewed energy. They were revived to do the work they were put on this planet to do.
Would you like to be a part of the revolution too? Would you like to experience the love and the support of being a part of an intentional community of women?
If so, I am opening the doors to a new program where women across the globe can connect with, nurture and listen to themselves and one another. I call this program the Women’s Energy Revival Revolution and we are kicking it off the ground this summer solstice, June 20. The web site is almost done, so send me an email if want more information. I’ll make sure you get a sneak peek before we release the program to the general public. (Special Note: 4 retreats are included.)
